5 benefits of Rosé - wine not!

Ahhh rosé, is there anything it can’t do? Not only thirst quenching and refreshing, classy and photogenic but packed with tonnes of health benefits too. The production process of rosé wine is similar to that of red wine, and when it comes down to a choice between rosé and white wine, rosé comes out on top as it’s packed with antioxidants. Here’s a list of five advantages of the humble rosé:

 1. Low in calories

Rosé wine is low in calories, meaning you can guzzle it down guilt free! A standard 120mL glass of rosé wine has approximately 82 calories, making it one of the lowest calorie alcoholic drinks you can get besides a vodka soda. Yeah, so there are probably better ways to stay healthy, such as exercise and clean eating (but let’s face it, rosé is more fun), but this information allows you to enjoy rosé knowing that you can work out and work it off tomorrow.

 2. Mood booster

Whether you’re gearing up for an important first date and wondering what to order with your meal or setting up for a family gathering, it’s a given that your time will become all the more cheerful when rosé is involved. Maybe it’s the beautiful colour that can range from sweet honey orange to light pink to a darker berry hue or maybe it’s the crisp cool taste. Whatever it is, we’re sold. Rosé can also come in a sparkling variety, and who isn’t immediately cheery when holding (or popping!) a bubbly beverage? Celebrations and special occasions are enjoyed with a good sparkly, so why not make it a sparkling rosé! Guaranteed to make any monotonous occasion a whole lot better.

3. Tastes delicious

Obviously, it’s important to enjoy what you’re drinking, and we all know rosé is delicious. This perhaps marks the most important benefit, and your tastebuds will thank you! Rosé wine comes in many different varieties. There are fruity blends like Grenache and Sangiovese, sweet concoctions such as White Zinfandel and slightly more savoury fusions like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tempranillo. All are crisp, fresh and full of flavour and will pair deliciously with the right meal.

4. Health advantages

A micronutrient that can be found in rosé wine is called polyphenol. This is an organic chemical found in grapes which carry their benefits into the wine they produce! They help to lower LDL (AKA bad cholesterol) whilst thinning the blood and raising HDL (good cholesterol). Another neat benefit of rosé is that it helps to lower high blood pressure. This is due to the potassium found in rosé wine which balances out the negative effects of salt in the blood.

For those who have high-risk factors of heart disease, it has been studied and found that consuming moderate alcohol can be of great benefit. But not just any old alcohol, wine in particular. Rosé wine is enriched with anti-inflammatory properties and is known to improve health when consumed moderately. Fortunately, rosé contains less alcohol as opposed to red and white wine, which makes it easier to not overdo it. And if you needed even more convincing, rosé is packed full of antioxidants, particularly resveratrol which is a potent anti-ageing compound that not only helps to protect your brain but also minimises the risk of heart disease.

Raise a glass and cheers to good health!

 5. Perfect for the warmer months

When it comes to wine, there is no season in which it shouldn’t be consumed, but it goes without saying that whilst red wine suits the colder seasons- rugged up in front of the fire with a blanket and book in hand, rosé is perfect for the warmer months as it is refreshing, light and sweet on the tastebuds. Rosé wine is having its moment in the sun … quite literally! When thinking of rosé, we picture luscious beachside bars, sun-kissed terraces and a warm Summer’s day of alfresco drinking. Frivolous, fruity and flirty, rosé is everything you want and everything you need in the warmer months.
