Utterly aggressive and only tamed with a tonne of smooth and slickly textural Pinot Gris. Hand picked, whole bunch pressed, settled overnight before going unto seasoned French Oak for 4 months on fine lees. Wild yeast, minimal sulphur added at bottling.
Pinot Noir for red fruits, Pinot Gris for weight and texture and Chardonnay for purity and freshness.
Nose: Lifted red fruits and perfume. Nuances of rose petals.
Palate: Is driven with lime juice, rose petals, nashi pears and grapefruit.

The Hersey Vineyard was planted by the first qualified female winemaker in Australia in the early 1990s. Due to the custodians’ increasing age the vineyard was abandoned for many years until the Hersey family purchased the property in 2012. The Hersey family reinvigorated the vineyard and the first crop was picked in 2014. Yields for the next two years were very low (1.2 tonne from 3.57 ha for Clos Kuitpo) as the Hersey’s rebuilt the vineyard to its former glory.
The vineyard consists of 10 hectares of vineyard divided into five parcels sprawled over 52 hectares of forest, shrub and paddocks, with each displaying a unique terroir. The Hersey’s currently grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, while sourcing small quantities of Pinot Gris and Merlot from friends’ high quality vineyards in the Adelaide Hills.
The wines are made by Jono Hersey and his best mate Damon Koerner who have worked together since 2011. The pair make the wine meticulously, with the utmost precision and passion. All wines follow a similar philosophy; picked early to retain natural acidity, wild yeast used for fermentation, time on fine lees with no stirring and no or minimal dining and filtration.
