(Review is of the 2015 vintage; we stock 2019)
2014 was a love it or loathe it style; this 2015 release is more straight down the line. It drinks well. It fruity and bright without being too sweet; it tastes as much of stonefruit and apple as it does of cherry and earth; it has a soft, easy-going nature.
87/100 - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
Lifted and floral with notes of white peach, strawberry and fresh-cut melon. Fresh, crisp and delicate with bright summer berry flavours that are complemented by a long, dry finish. The perfect accompaniment to a seafood dish.
A cool and mild growing season in 2019 led to a relatively warm summer. Sangiovese holds its natural acidity well creating a bright, full-flavoured and refreshingly crisp rosé. We carefully harvest the Sangiovese grapes by hand during the evening, then leave them to cool naturally as the temperature drops overnight at our winery. The following day the grapes are destemmed, crushed and pressed immediately off skins, to keep the colour to a minimum. The juice is then fermented at very low temperatures for two to three weeks until it is completely dry. The wine is cold stabilised and filtered before bottling where it waits to be enjoyed.
Founded by Frank Mitolo and run in close collaboration with growers the Loprestis, Mitolo run according to an initial business plan of just six words: individuality, integrity, quality, purity, elegance and power.
The Italian heritage shared by the Mitolo and the Loprestis (Mitolo’s family hail from the Abruzzo region of Italy) is as strong an influence as the unique soils of the McLaren Vale and inspired the company’s aspiration to create wines that are forte e gentile, or strong and gentle.
